Team Lakay ri-sing star Jhanlo Sangiao may have been out of the cage for nine months now but his eagerness to return to action in ONE Championship remains.

Sangiao, who last saw action in August last year where he yielded to Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu of Mongolia for his first career loss in mixed martial arts, is hoping to get a call this year.

After an impressive three finishes in ONE where he earned two fights of the night bonuses, Sangiao has taken a back seat to do some small business and enjoy other hobbies.

“Since my last fight I’ve been busy doing some small business and enjoying my other hobbies while training,” said Sangiao, who ventured into making and selling hot sauce and enjoying pick-up basketball during his free time.

Since his first martial arts tournament at the age of 14 until his ONE debut, Sangiao has been under the tight watch of his father and coach, Mark, and honed his skills with former world champions.

The younger Sangiao said he has also learned a lot against Baatarkhuu, protege of former ONE featherweight world champion Narantungalag Jadambaa, who has steadily risen through the ranks with his unstoppable pressure, punishing clinch work, smothering ground game, and iron chin.

“I’ve learned to take my time and every move counts, and also work harder and smarter,” added Sangiao, who vowed to learn from his mistakes in his last bout.

While the 21-year-old Sangiao may have been sidelined for the past few months, he is trying to improve some skills in his arsenal, hoping to make them handy when he gets another call inside the ONE cage.

“I’m trying to sharpen more my striking and wrestling skills,” Sangiao added.

Sangiao added aside from continuing his training, he has been keeping himself in tip-top condition, hoping to see action either this July or in the coming months of the year. – Press release
