SENTIMENTAL VISIT — Forty-five years after gracing the Baguio Convention Center grand opening to host the historic 1978 World Chess Championship, Russian chess Grand Master Anatoly Karpov returned to the BCC on Feb. 1, as he recalled his match against challenger Viktor Korchnoi in that building. Karpov was received by Mayor Benjamin Magalong and members of the local chess clubs. He was in the city for an engagement with the local chess players and to promote a film documentary on the historic chess match entitled “Champion of the World” which had a free screening at the venue. –Neil Clark Ongchangco
