The search for future members of the national kickboxing team from Northern Luzon has to be postponed.
The Samahang Kickboxing ng Pilipinas Northern Luzon said its first big event up north will be postponed until further notice.
Led by SKP Northern Luzon regional governor, Team Lakay chair Mark Sangiao, SKP was supposed to oversee the national kickboxing open northern league in Baguio and Benguet April 15 to 18.
The postponed four-day tournament is expected to gather rising young kickboxing athletes from the Cordillera and nearby provinces of regions 1 and 2 in the elimination, quarter finals, and finals.
Young Cordilleran athletes have the great potential to be part of the national kickboxing training pool before becoming full-fledged members of the kickboxing team.
Three Cordilleran athletes from Team Lakay – Jean Claude Saclag, Jerry Olsim, and Gina Iniong, who all transitioned from Muay Thai and wushu to kickboxing won gold medals apiece for the country during last year’s Southeast Asian Games.
Boxer Karol Maguide also became part of the national team and won silver in the same SEAG edition.
SKP Northern Luzon also postponed the kickboxing regional technical officials’ seminar originally set at the Ben Palispis Hall at the Capitol in La Trinidad, Benguet from April 12 to 14.
The seminar aims to enhance the knowledge of coaches and other technical officials on the rules of kickboxing tournaments. – Harley F. Palangchao
