Soprano Stephanie Aguilar will headline Guacamole Productions’ “Serenade: An Evening of Torch Songs” on Oct. 14 and 15 at 6 p.m. at Gypsy Baguio by Chef Waya on Road 2, Quezon Hill, Baguio City.
Torch songs are defined as love songs that lament unrequited or lost love. In Filipino parlance, they are known as “awit na may hugot”. Made popular in the ‘40s and ‘50s by singers such as Nina Simone, Edith Piaf, and Billy Holiday, Aguilar bares her soul through this type of music.
Her repertoire includes the theme from “An Affair to Remember,” “Summer Me Winter Me,” “Some Good Things Never Last,” “La Vie En Rose,” and “Windmills of Your Mind.”
Chef Waya Araos-Wijangco will prepare a sumptuous unlimited cocktail buffet for the evening.
Aguilar is a winner of the National Music Competition for Young Artists, the Jovita Fuentes Vocal Competition, and the only Filipino participant in the prestigious International Seoul Vocal Competition.
She is a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music where she studied under the late tenor-pedagogue Lemuel de la Cruz.
