Athletes from the Cordillera powered the Samahang Taek-wondo ng Pilipinas (STP) in hauling 36 gold, 15 silver, and 18 bronze medals in the MBW International Championships 2023 held at the Stadium Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Aug. 18 to 23.

The STP led by Danrey Velo with coaches Jeremy Fagayan, Jr.; Pedz Chulipa, Jr.; and Jones Calingayan, also emerged as first runners-up in the poomsae category.

The athletes were led by double gold medalists Kody Wanson and Manilyn Mataag, who won gold apiece in the individual poomsae and kyorugi.

Aldrick Kurt Pugong, Kristauf Aurelius Bosaing, and Alwina Dimacquiat also won one gold in poomsae and a silver in kyorugi.

The gold medalists in poomsae and bronze medalists in kyorugi were Wayne Eusebio; Yuamiekoh Ganado; and Elcanor Mang-usan, Jr.

The other gold medalists in poomsae were Zaine Dawn Amirykal Acquisio, Noriel Acquisio, Jiro Justin Bahod, Giana Zienne Esiong, Winnie Escaño, Xian Craig Eusebio, Alice Rhema Mana-a, Ja-ren Gabriel Mana-a, Shaun Devyn Ma-saway, Geraldine Michelle Calingayan, Angela Nicole Perez, John Lloyd Feliciano, Jhon Bert Valenzuela, and Sabrina Kielle Sorbito.

Hanna Shannaya Mangiga won silver in poomsae and gold in kyorugi while Xedric James Faroden won silver apiece in poomsae and kyorugi.

The other silver medalists in poomsae were Roxanne Masaway, Myla Pa-nganiban, Jones Ca-lingayan, and Janine Mae Labao while the bronze medalists were Jonalyn Ladao, Marilyn Tabareng, Janet Faroden, Wilnelia Niduasa, Kathlene Bejosano, Precious Ashley Benitez, and Jeriza Dawn Ummas.

Athan Drake Codio also won a bronze in poomsae and a silver in kyorugi while Joness Panganiban won a bronze both in poomsae and kyorugi.

The gold medalists in pair poomsae were Precious Ashley Benitez and Wayne Eusebio while the silver medalists were Angela Nicole Perez and John Lloyd Feliciano and the duo of Janine Mae Labao and Jhonbert Valenzuela. The bronze medalists were Jiro Justin Bahod and Hanna Shannaya Mangiga.

In team poomsae, the gold medalists were the trios of Zaine Dawn Amirykal Acquisio, Giana Ziene Esiong, and  Yuamiekoh Ganado; Wayne Eusebio, Jhon Bert Valenzuela, and Elcanor Mang-usan Jr.; and Angela Nicole Perez, Precious Ashley Benitez,  and Janine Mae Labao.

The trio of Xian Craig Eusebio, Xedric James Faroden, and Shaun Devyn Ma-saway won a bronze medal.

The tournament drew atheletes from  Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Thailand, China, Korea, Australia, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, Japan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Hong Kong, Macau, and the Philippines. – Harley F. Palangchao
