TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Local fisherfolk received fingerlings assistance from the city government to boost local fish production.
Evelyn Orsit of the Office of the City Agricultural Services said each beneficiary was given 500 fingerlings of hito, tilapia, or shrimp.
The beneficiaries are enrolled in the Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture, the government database of farmers, farm laborers, and fisherfolk.
Orsit said the assistance is part of the city government’s response to augment income of farmers amidst the Covid-19 pandemic and the effects of the African swine fever.
Fidel Omang, a fish producer from Sitio Makilo, Barangay Calaccad, said the assistance he received would expand his main source of income.
With regular government support, the local fish industry is being developed to be a potential income source among farmers. – Larry Lopez
