Three Team Lakay fighters led by two-time ONE lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang are upbeat to seal the win against formidable opponents in ONE X in Singapore on March 26.
With five days left before fight night, Folayang, 37; Lito Adiwang, 28; and Stephen Loman, 26, are in full throttle training with fellow Team Lakay fighters in Baguio City and Benguet before traveling to Singapore a week earlier.
After almost a decade of competing in mixed martial arts, Folayang, a bemedalled wushu specialist, has shifted to join the Muay Thai Super Series against the legendary kickboxing and Muay Thai champion John Wayne Parr of Australia.
The 45-year-old Parr is determined to win the fight, his supposed last dance as a professional fighter, after competing for decades where he became a 10-time kickboxing and Muay Thai world champion. He has 133 wins and 34 losses in his kickboxing resume.
Folayang and Parr are showing respect to each other, as both fighters have greatly contributed in the development of wushu and Muay Thai in their respective countries.
Adiwang is also vocal in respecting compatriot Miado, saying the fighter from Albay has a vast background in Muay Thai.
In a recent press conference, Adiwang told reporters he was a bit hesitant to accept the offer to fight Miado in the biggest ONE fight card, but later agreed, as both fighters are aiming to improve their ranking in the strawweight division.
He said whoever wins the match will move up to the rankings that’s why he claimed he needs to prepare and perform his best, as he acknowledged that his fight against Miado will be a showcase of Filipino MMA skills.
On March 16, ONE announced that Loman has been added to the fight card against Shoko Sato of Japan.
Loman entered the division’s rankings after defeating Yusup Saadulaev during his debut at ONE: Winter Warriors II.
The 34-year-old Sato has a three-one record and a 100 percent finish rate at ONE. He defeated Mark Abelardo, Rafael Silva, and Kwon before suffering a setback versus four-ranked Fabricio Andrade at ONE: Unbreakable III. – Harley F. Palangchao
