Two-time ONE lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang will make a historic comeback inside the circle when he faces combat sports legend John Wayne Parr of Australia under Muay Thai rules in the stacked ONE X at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on March 26.
It is the first time that the 37-year-old Folayang, who has won 11 major wushu competitions, including three gold me-dals in the Southeast Asian Games, will compete under Muay Thai rules against one of the best strikers in the world.
“After spending his entire ONE Championship tenure competing exclusively in mixed martial arts, the 37-year-old Baguio City native will officially make his ONE Super Series Muay Thai debut at ONE X,” ONE announced recently.
It will also be a historic fight for the 45-year-old Parr, who will have his last dance in a competition after a dominant presence in the combat sports world for three decades.
Parr is a 10-time kickboxing and Muay Thai world champion who has defeated several of the fiercest fighters in the world. He has 133 wins and 34 losses in his kickboxing resume.
This means that Parr will enter the circle with a huge advantage over the Filipino fighter.
The Aussie fighter has thanked ONE top honcho Chatri Sityodtong for giving him an opportunity to fight Folayang, as he officially announced in his social media account that he is hanging up his gloves in competitive combat sport with age catching up on him.
Folayang has not made any statement yet on his decision to join the Muay Thai Super Series, which is being dominated by Thai fighters, who have mastered the “Art of Eight Limbs”. – Harley F. Palangchao
