Benguet legislative caretaker Eric Go Yap of ACT-CIS party-list has vowed to continue buying highland vegetables produced in the province, Mountain Province, and Ifugao during the enhanced community quarantine period.

Yap has already purchased eight tons of assorted highland vegetables last week from the affected farmers. The vegetables will be distributed as relief items to affected residents in Metro Manila and other areas.

The highland vegetables were loaded in a 16-wheeler truck that transported 500 sacks of rice that were equally distributed to the 13 towns of Benguet through their mayors for distribution to distressed residents in the province.

Para hindi naman masayang ang biyahe, minabuti ng ating congressman na bumili ng mga gulay para sa mga kababayan nating naghihirap sa iba’t-ibang lugar dahil sa Covid-19 pandemic,” said Kevin See, the chief of staff of Yap.

See said that Yap  wants to make residents of Benguet know that he is not simply a legislative caretaker but someone who truly represents them not only in legislative concerns but also during challenging times.

“He told me to tell the people of Benguet that at this time, he is not just a mere legislative caretaker but the literal caretaker of the province,” See said.

The other week, Yap also donated P2.5 million worth of personal protective equipment for the health workers of Benguet General Hospital.

The donation included hazmat suits, surgical gloves, N95 masks, goggles, alcohol, thermal scanner, and acrylic box in addition to the PPEs of health workers at the provincial hospital.

Last month, Yap also gave P1M from his personal fund to Benguet to enhance its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. – Harley F. Palangchao
