The recent spike in Covid-19 cases has forced organizers of the much-awaited 111th Charter Day fun golf set on Sept. 26 and 27 to reschedule the event next month.
Organizers from the Baguio Olympics announced last week that the fun golf that limits players to 100 only will be tentatively played on Oct. 10 to 11 at the Baguio Country Club and Pinewoods Golf & Country Club.
The organizers said the minimum health protocols will be strictly observed reason why the awarding of winners will be done virtually.
“Safety is our main concern,” the organizers claimed, as they informed players that the decision was reached after close coordination with its partners, the city government of Baguio and the management of the two golf clubs.
The announcement also came just as BCC, Pinewoods, and Camp John Hay closed their fairways for disinfection after a player who tested positive for the Covid-19 played in two courses while three caddies of two courses caught the infection.
The player and the three caddies are in stable condition.
Earlier, the organizers of the Charter Day fun golf announced that only 100 players will be registered as official participants for the two-day tournament that will be divided into two groups.
The first group, composed of 50 players, will play at BCC then at Pinewoods the following day. The other 50 players will play at Pinewoods on the first day then at BCC the following day.
The event which is only open for amateur players will adopt the Molave system as a format of play while players will be categorized into class A, B, C, ladies A and B, and seniors depending on their September 2020 Unified National Handicapping System handicap.
The event with a registration fee of P3,500, which covers the registration in the two clubs will also entitle each player to a raffle, giveaways, packed snacks, and drinks.
Winners may claim their trophies and raffle prizes at the Baguio Olympics office at 143 Kisad Road, which is also the registration site. – Harley F. Palangchao
