Women from various groups in Lagawe, Ifugao trained on pastry-making training initiated by the provincial government.

The participants were composed of 15 members from the Women’s and Farmers Organization of Barangay South Poblacion, two from Barangay Caba and Bornay, and four from Barangay Boliwong.

“The training aims to respond to the request of women to have skills training, which will increase their entrepreneurial competency,” said Cecilia Guiniling, focal person of the Institutional Development and Enterprise Unit under Agribusiness Division, Provincial Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources.

Guiniling said the women requested for training on buko pie making since coconut is abundant in the locality.

Jona Ligmayo, vice president of South Poblacion Women’s and Farmers Organization, said through the training, they are given opportunities to start their own business.

“This also favors the organizations as there is a little business competition in buko pie making in the Ifugao. They are looking forward to making other pie fillings using their local produce,” Ligmayo said.

After the three-day training under Joan Yaban, a trainer from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Technical-Vocational Education and Training, the participants were given another three days to apply what they have learned and to promote their pro-ducts.

The group’s pro-ducts were sold for P140 per piece at the Lagawe booth during the 2023 Agro-Tourism and Industrial Trade Fair at the Provincial Plaza. – Kisha Joy I. Coyam-an
