Still bearing the effects of the magnitude 7.0 quake on July 27, the towns of Bauko and Besao and barangay Sacasacan in Sadanga, all in Mountain Province have declared a state of calamity. 

The sangguniang bayan of Bauko declared a state of calamity on Aug. 5, stating the municipality has recorded P173 million worth of damage.

Besao reported 27 schools, one hospital, 21 government buildings, one communal irrigation system, seven church buildings, and five roads were partially damaged.

The rapid damage assessment report of the Besao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council also stated that damage to crops, fisheries, and livestocks was pegged at P147.7M.

The sangguniang bayan of Besao unanimously approved the resolution on Aug.1. 

The Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Sacasacan, Sadanga declared a state of calamity on Aug. 5 due ground subsidence damaging several houses at sitio Tatabra-an.

The barangay council said the progressive sinking was observed on Aug. 4 and believed to have been a consequential effect of the aftershocks of the July 27 quake.

The barangay reported that 17 residential houses were affected, of which five were totally damaged and 12 were partially damaged.

The partially damaged houses were considered not suitable and unsafe for occupancy.

“Unfortunately, the cracks became wider and the grounds are progressively sinking,” the Department of Science and Technology-Mountain Province reported.

Gov. Bonifacio Lacwasan, Jr. and Sadanga Mayor Adolf Ganggangan, along with experts from DOST-Phivolcs and other concerned offices inspected the ground subsidence was inspected.

The concrete road in the area is impassable due to the cracks. The Fokong irrigation system at the Filig section and the Poblacion water system, which serves as a water source for Abeo, Tap-ag, and Sangey, were also damaged. – Ofelia C. Empian
