BONTOC, Mountain Province – Three local government units in the province were conferred the 2021 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Go-vernance (SCFLG) Award.

Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr., with  Provincial Administrator Franklin C. Odsey and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Miguela Angwani  awarded to the LGUs of  Tadian, Bontoc, and Paracelis  the  plaque of recognition from the Council for the Welfare of Children.

The three LGUs passed the Child Friendly Local Governance Audit (CFLGA) conducted based on 12 criteria catering to the welfare of children.

These include the ordinance establishing barangay violence against women and their children desks; percentage reduction in the deaths among children below five years old or under-five mortality rate, and extent of mainstreaming of children’s rights to survival, development, protection, and participation in the core development agenda of LGUs including LCPC functionality and child participation, among others.

Bontoc Mayor Jerome Tudlong, Jr. credited the award to the collaborative efforts of the officials and employees of the municipal government, partner agencies, stakeholders, and the community.

“The municipal government cannot take full credit for this award. This is not an award of the Bontoc LGU alone. This is the result of our passion for giving priority to the welfare of our children,” he said.

The SCFLG, which is a recognition system for LGUs that deliver positive results for children’s well-being, is one of the strategies developed to achieve a child-friendly Philippines. – Valerie Taguba
