BONTOC, Mountain Province – Fifteen units of blood were collected during a bloodletting activity conducted by the 2nd Mountain Province Provincial Mobile Force Company Advisory Group for Police Transformation and Development (CAGPTD) and the Philippine Red Cross-Mountain Province recently.

Florita A. Sacgaca of the PRC said the activity aims to increase the number of blood supply to cater to the surge of patients needing blood in the province.

“Supply of blood should always be available because of patients going through dialysis. Aside from that, there are medical emergencies that need blood transfusion as well like trauma, anemia, leukemia, and surgeries. So the blood supply should be good,” she said.

Sacgaca said since there are two hospitals in the province that cater to dialysis patients – the Bontoc General Hospital and Luis Hora Regional Memorial Hospital – blood supply should be ample since these health facilities are not only catering to patients in the pro-vince but those from neighboring pro-    vinces.

The PRC continues to encourage the community to donate blood not only to help save patients but also for their own benefit.

The event was conceptualized by the CAGPTD in partnership with the Department of Education-Mountain Province, Provincial Health Office, and Bontoc General Hospital. – Valerie Taguba
