TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Three hundred five students who have qualified in this year’s Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) in Tabuk City started their 20-day work after the pre-employment orientation.

Tabuk Public Employment Service Officer Loyda Saboy said 252 of the 305 who were hired under the Department of Labor and Employment and city local government  SPES tie-up  will be  paid P455 per day with the 40 percent to be handled by DOLE and the 60 percent as Tabuk City government counterpart. 

The 53 students hired by the LGU will receive P402 per day.

The SPES provides financial assistance to students from low-income families during break of classes.

Those hired will work 20 days from July to August in various offices and in their host barangays.

The SPES is offered to grade 12 to third year college students with at least 85 percent average grade and are 18 to 30 years old.

Beneficiaries come from families with annual income below the P169,824 poverty threshold. – Larry Lopez
