BANGUED, Abra – Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program members in the province were recently awarded with agri-based livelihood kits for them to establish their backyard gardening.

Twenty parent-leaders of 4Ps clusters received agri-based livelihood kits each containing various seedlings and farm equipment worth P8,000 under the “Gulayan sa Barangay” program.

The distribution was led by Agriculture Program Coordinating Office Head Rosemarie Tesoro, Provincial Agriculturist Expeditu Villarus, Department of Agriculture -Cordillera and Department of Social Welfare and Development-Abra team.

The program aims to encourage individuals, families, and communities of Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries to implement community gardening activities that will promote food production at the household and community level and ensure provision of access to fresh, organically produced food.

DA-Cordillera Agriculturist Sylvia Onse said the beneficiaries were selected because they are already engaged in backyard gardening.

Elma Belarmino, parent-leader of Barangay Pangtud, Pidigan, expressed gratitude to the DA and the DSWD for selecting their group as a beneficiary of the project.

The program aims to contribute to the improvement of the overall health of the Pantawid beneficiaries and ensure the sustenance of quality vegetable production among poor communities in the region. – Christian Allister Tubadeza
