BANGUED, Abra – The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera provided women and child-friendly space materials to be used in evacuation centers to cater to the psychosocial needs of women, children, and distressed families during calamities.

Karen Joy Guiniawan of DSWD-CAR and SWAD-Abra Team Leader Carmencita Chaluyen led the turnover of women-friendly and child-friendly space materials to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and Provincial Social Welfare and Development.

The same sets of materials were also handed over to the local government unit of Dolores for its evacuation centers.

The materials include mono bloc chairs, tents, and kits containing several floor mats, curtains, markers, crayons, record books, flashlights, solar lamp, art materials, children’s puzzles and books, flash cards and board games.

“These will ensure a setting in evacuation centers where children can access free and structured play, recreation and learning activities,” Guiniawan said.

The delivery, loading, and unloading of the kits were made possible with the efforts of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Employees assigned in the disaster response operations were oriented on the proper setting of the materials. – Christian Tubadeza
