After earning two bronze medals last November in the regionals, Ballet Baguio took another leap and won a bronze medal at the grand finals for the senior group dance category at the recently concluded 2021 Asian Grand Prix (AGP) international ballet competition.
The event is the most prestigious ballet competition in Asia.
Members of the Ballet Baguio took the honors after competing against 14 other countries.
Inspired by the city’s campaign “Breathe Baguio,” Jacqueline Go-Ramon’s choreography that earned the city’s first bronze, entitled “Breathe,” depicted the struggles and yearning of dancers to breathe and dance freely amidst the pandemic.
The talented dancers who formed the winning team were Michel Jullianne Grace Quan, Phoeboa Rei Buen, Shelly Camille Esguerra, and Keri Kasandra Villegas.
The group was also coached by Go-Ramon, who is also the Ballet Baguio artistic director.
Ballet Baguio dedicated its victory to the city and all the dancers who are struggling to keep their hopes, passion, and dreams alive despite the Covid-19 pandemic. – Press release
