Eighty barangays in Baguio City received P1 million worth of agricultural inputs and equipment from the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera through the High Value Crops Development Program.
The provision of assistance is in partnership with the Office of Rep. Mark O. Go in support to the Gulayan sa Barangay Program.
DA-Cordillera OIC-Regional Executive Director Cameron P. Odsey said that through the program, the barangay would be able to give more focus on urban gardening.
He also expressed hope that the agricultural inputs and equipment will be used appropriately and in consideration to proper farming practices to prevent causing further damage to the soil and the environment.
The 80 barangays who are the first beneficiaries of the Gulayan sa Barangay received a set of 20-liter capacity electric knapsack sprayer, rubber hose, vermicast, 45” x 90 meters black net, and assorted vegetable seeds.
The barangays were validated to have available areas for the Gulayan initiative.
Barangay Bakakeng Central Kagawad Alicia Dizon said the agricultural inputs and equipment will help a lot in the barangay’s endeavor.
The DA and the city government will be monitoring the implementation of the Gulayan sa Barangay.
Go said his office is lobbying for additional fund to cater to the remaining barangays in the city.
