The city government of Baguio honored athletes who excelled and brought medals for the country and the city in recent national and international competitions.

The athletes who received the resolutions of commendation were Angelica Joyce Gaw and Justin Kobe Macario, both members of the Philippine Taekwondo Team, for their victorious campaign in two international competitions held in South Korea.

Macario clinched a gold medal in the men’s freestyle over 17 years old category during the 2022 Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships.

Macario was also with fellow Baguio athlete Jeordan Dominguez and teammates Darius Venerable, Juvenile Crisostomo, and Janna Dominique Oliva in the freestyle poomsae mixed team over 17 years old du-ring the 2022 Asian Taekwondo Championship, also held in South Korea.

Dominguez was not present to receive his resolution of commendation due to an earlier commitment.

Gaw, on the other hand, clinched a gold medal with Rodolfo Reyes and Enrico Mella in the recognized poomsae mixed team event in the 2022 Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships.

She also teamed up with Aidaine Laxa and Laeia Soria during the 2022 Asian Taekwondo Championship where they won a bronze medal in the recognized team female under 30.

The other Cordilleran who won a bronze medal in the Korea Open was Tokyo Olympian Kurt Barbosa of Bangued, Abra.

The city government also conferred a resolution of commendation to the members of the TJS Baguio City Dancesport Team for their feat during the Philippine Superstars Open Dance Championship held at the Dance Vision Arena in San Juan City, Metro Manila. The city also recognized the Baguio-based athletes and their coaches who are members of the National Arnis Team for contributing two gold, five silver, and four bronze medals during the 16th World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation World Championships. – Harley F.
