Benguet Electric Cooperative’s Reagan Nabua topped the men’s overall age group, including his age group, during the Mount Mayon Triathlon race held in Legazpi City, Albay on Aug. 14.

Known as “The Volt,” Nabua hit the gold medal podium in the 35 to 39 group with a time of two hours, 19 minutes, and 41 seconds.

The Beneco lineman, who raced under the Fluid Endurance team, completed the race route after he swam for 30 minutes and four seconds; biked for one hour, five minutes, and 27 seconds; and ran for 44 minutes and nine seconds.

Billy Biag of CamSur Tri Team placed second with a time of 2:20:49 followed by Luigi Victor Robles of Next Step Tri with a time of 2:24:01.

The more than 500 Filipino and foreign participants went through the 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bike, and 10-kilometer run that started and ended at the Sawangan Park.   

The event had four categories, namely elite, age group, relay, and team.

Last May 15, Nabua won a gold medal in the 35 to 39 category of the Clark Triathlon and was third overall with the fastest bike split.

He and his teammates from Baguio-Benguet Tri team swept the podium finish during the Ironman 70.3 in Subic Bay. The team was led by Maynard Pecson in first place, followed by Josh Ramos in second, and Nabua in third place in the half marathon category.    Nabua is now preparing for the Ironman 70.3 in Puerto Princesa, Palawan on Nov. 13.  – Ofelia C.
