Young and veteran campaigners Justin Kobe Macario, Angelica Joyce Gaw, and Jeordan Dominguez were part of the Philippine Taekwondo Poomsae Team that won five silver and three bronze medals in the 2022 Asian Taekwondo Championships in South Korea on weekend.

The three Baguio athletes have competed against former world and Olympian medalists during the well-attended international poomsae competition.

Macario and Dominguez were with teammates Darius Venerable, Juvenile Crisostomo, and Janna Dominique Oliva who won a silver medal in the freestyle poomsae mixed team over 17 years old.

Other silver medalists were Oliva and Venerable, who won in the freestyle poomsae male and female over 17.

Veteran campaigner Rodolfo Reyes Jr. clinched a silver being a recognized poomsae individual male under 30 while the team of Joaquin Tuzon, Enrico Mella, and Patrick King Perez won silver being the recognized poomsae team under 30.

Macario and Crisostomo also paired and won bronze medal in freesytle pair.

Gaw teamed up with Aidaine Laxa and Laeia Soria and brought home a bronze medal in the recognized team female under 30.

The pair of Reyes and Jocel Ninolba won the third bronze medal for the country in the recognized pair under 30.

The poomsae team’s next stop will be the Chucheon Korea Open Taekwondo Championships that kicked off on June 29 and ends on July 5.

Tokyo Olympian Kurt Barbosa of Bangued, Abra will see action in kyorugi in the second tournament. – Harley F. Palangchao
