The city government of Baguio will co-host the 6th International and 14th Annual National Convention and Scientific Meeting on Oct. 26 and 27.

Dr. Jose Enrico Lazaro, president of the Philippine Society for Cell Biology, Inc., requested the city government through Mayor Benjamin Magalong to co-host the event using the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center as venue for the two-day conference.

The theme of the conference is “Cellular Ecology: An Integrated Approach to Understanding the Interplay between Cells and their Environment.”

Topics for discussion include mechanisms of cellular adaptation to environmental stress; the effect of environmental toxins on cellular function; and the influence of environmental factors on cell development and differentiation.

The conference is expected to bring together leading researchers and experts in the field to discuss the latest developments and future directions in cellular ecology research.

The conference will feature presentations, panel discussions and poster sessions, providing attendees the opportunity to engage with experts, share their own research, and collaborate on research projects.

Undergraduate and graduate students in related fields will also be invited. Participants may also join online.

Lazaro said this will be the first time that the conference will be held outside of Metro Manila with at least 150 participants.

The organizers believe the conference is a great opportunity for the city to promote the importance of and awareness about research and innovation and their contribution to the core agenda of the present administration, particularly on environment, land use and energy; climate and disaster resilience; urban regeneration; youth empowerment; economic development and competitiveness; smart city management; and good governance. – Jessa Mardy P.
