The sangguniang panlalawigan of Benguet has passed a resolution making Rep. Eric Go Yap of the ACT-CIS party-list as an adopted son of the province.

The resolution was presented during Yap’s 41st birthday on May 11, “in recognition and appreciation of his sincere concern for the province of Benguet and its people,” the resolution stated.

“The sangguniang panlalawigan finds it fitting that Hon. Eric Go Yap be adopted as a son of Benguet as a gift on his birthday, today, May 11,” it stated.

The board said official ceremony will soon follow on a more appropriate date considering the present situation.

Benguet Gov. Melchor Diclas said he supports the move of the provincial board, saying he appreciated the caretaker for the assistance he has been giving to the province, some even coming from his own pocket.

“He is doing well in assisting our province and we can see that he is sincere in helping,” Diclas said.

Yap, in his statement, thanked the provincial board for coming up with the resolution.

“It is a great privilege and a very nice gesture from the sanggunian to bestow this honor on my birthday. Since my appointment as the legislative caretaker of Benguet, I always thrive to exert my best efforts to serve the people especially in this time of uncertainty and crisis. In my personal capacity, I vow to always help in whatever way I can and I will continue to do so until the very last minute of my tenure as your representative,” Yap said.

Yap said he may not be from Benguet, but he will continue supporting the province and its people.

Muli, maraming salamat po sa isang karangalan na ito na magingadopted son of Benguet,” he said. – Ofelia C. Empian
