The city government will kick off its celebration of National Bible Month on Jan. 6 starting 8 a.m. during the flag-raising rites at City Hall led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong and Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan with the theme, “The Bible transforms and unites the nation.”
City Human Resource and Management Office assistant head and Baguio Character Council member Edith Dawaten said the activity will be highlighted by a unity prayer from representatives of the Baguio-Benguet Ecumenical Group.  The council is chaired by the mayor.
She said 350 calendars focusing on various character values will also be distributed to the different barangays and government offices in Baguio. Bibles were distributed in previous celebrations.
January is National Bible Month, Jan. 20 to 26 is National Bible Week while Jan. 27 is National Bible Day.
A Philippine Bible Society website states that National Bible Month is currently backed up by Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s Presidential Proclamation 124 which states in part, “It is fitting and proper that national attention be focused on the important role being played by reading and study of the Bible in molding the moral fiber of our society.” – Gaby Keith
