BONTOC, Mountain Province – The winners of the Bontoc Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Skills Challenge 2022 were named after five teams competed in nine events that tested their skills in DRRM.

The events included question and answer, crossing the bridge, bandaging techniques, basic carries, collapsed structure rescue operations, basic knot-tying, extrication and spine board management, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, and fire suppression.

Team Samoki emerged as the champion and will receive a cash prize of P10,000. Team Poblacion will receive P8,000, and Team Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKDAT) will receive P6,000 as the second and third place, respectively.

Team Local Government Unit and Team Upland will each receive P5,000 as consolation prize.

Mayor Jerome Tudlong, Jr. emphasized the importance of enhancing the skills of the youth in disaster preparedness and response.

He said these activities will not only allow the youth to practice and refresh their skills acquired in their previous trainings but is also an opportunity to socialize and strengthen their collaboration.

During the post-evaluation, Municipal DRRM Officer Johana Padaen lauded the five teams for their active participation and encouraged them to share their skills with their fellow youth.

She also emphasized the aim of the activity which is to enhance and evaluate the participants’ skills and knowledge on basic life support and standard first-aid.

The participants were Sangguniang Kabataan and KKDAT members.

The facilitators are the members of the Bontoc Emergency Response Team, personnel from the Bontoc Municipal Fire Station, and Bontoc Municipal Police Station. – Christy Mae F. Che-es
