BONTOC, Mountain Province – Two members of the Philippine contingent in the recent 31st Southeast Asian Games who trace their roots to this capital town received resolution of commendation from the municipal council and cash incentive from the local government.

FIGHTING PRIDE OF BONTOC — April Joy La Madrid and Helen Aclopen who won medals in the 2022 Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam shared light moments with Mayor Franklin Odsey of Bontoc, Mountain Province and Municipal Health Officer Diga Kay Gomez during their visit on June 13. La Madrid brought home a bronze medal in the Muay Thai – wo-men’s combat 60-kilogram event.

Aclopen, on the other hand, won silver kurash women’s -48kg division.

Resolution 460 s. 2022 states La Mad-rid and Aclopen not only inspire young Filipinos to develop interest in sports but also showed the world the physical prowess, competitiveness, and the overall athletic quality of Ifontoks.

The municipal government also awarded certificate of recognition and cash prize amounting to P10,000 to La Madrid and P20,000 to Aclopen for bringing honor and pride to the country and the municipality.

Mayor Franklin Odsey commended the two athletes for their commitment, enthusiasm, and perseverance in sports.

“On behalf of the people and officialdom of Bontoc, I extend my warmest congratulations on your well-deserved achievement during the SEA Games,” he said. – Christy Mae F. Che-es
