BONTOC, Mountain Province – Eighteen athletes who won medals in the 2023 CAR Kyorugi and Poomsae Taekwondo Championship in Baguio City on Dec. 10, 2023 received certificates of recognition from the municipal government.

Led by S/Sgt. Benjamin Chumacog of the Bontoc Municipal Police Station, who also served as coach of the Albago taekwondo team, the athletes brought home a total of 19 medals to include five gold, five silver, and nine bronze medals.

BONTOC REPRESENT — Officials of Bontoc, Mountain Province led by Mayor Jerome Tudlong Jr. proudly present the coaching staff and taekwondo athletes, who won medals in the 2023 CAR Kyorugi and Poomsae Taekwondo Championship in Baguio City on Dec. 10, 2023. The athletes who earned medals in the sparring championship were Fredirick Dicang, Nile Pang-etan, and Jentry Dapig – all gold medals; Jesy Sky Cangcan, Sumer Lyn Langbayan, Davene Gumihid, Joseph Bumakil, Ficy Shaun Angagka, Dominic Awingan, and Bea Monette Buswilan – silver; Dynne Germaine Ayan, Ayesha Dapig, Francine Mae Wasit, Benjamin Chumacog, Jr., Asher Jones Lapniten, Neihum Ayan, Henry Butigan, Cyrus Kyle Nguddo, Dhenz Busoy, and Allen Lao-aguey – bronze. 

Athletes who earned bronze medals in poomsae were Joseph Bumakil, Fredirick Dicang, Benjamin Chumacog, Jr., Jesy Sky Cangcang, and Asher Jones Lapniten.

Mayor Jerome Tudlong, Jr. expressed his pride and appreciation to the athletes, saying their achievements not only brought pride to Bontoc but also inspired the community.

The mayor also expressed his appreciation to Chumacog, whose guidance and expertise played a crucial role in the success of the team.

The certificates were awarded by the mayor, Vice Mayor Eusebio Kabluyen, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Mark Branford Andaya, and Local Youth Development Officer-designate Ross Kiat-ong, at the Capitol grounds. – Christy Mae C. Pangesfan
