Break from it all

After being conferred a Juris Doctor degree, I am now a lawyer and a masters and a doctorate degree holder, although the only medical prescription I could issue is aspirin and only to myself.
So, all 11 of us – Avilas plus one who hied off to Hong Kong for a break from the legal battles, political intrigues and all the drudgery that comes with life and living.
No escaping though, the deadlines for columns set for Tuesday. The spiritual journey back home will be by Wednesday when we visit and pray in church or visit the replica of the Black Nazarene at the John Hay Amphitheater on Good Friday.
Here, aside from the high-end-shops, street-food and the Tsing-tao beer, the epic return to the happiest placeon Earth is the most anticipated part especially for Betchay and her brother Kyro who, at six months will rarely remember his experience except for pictures.
Disney, for all of us is magic even if the visit is on the “nth time” and once you step foot inside, the priceless memories of being a child comes into fore. Be it in the original Los Angeles, Shanghai or Tokyo, one can never be too old or too young for the adventure.
The characters remain – Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, and many more plus the main attraction and bestseller ”Frozen”, the rides in Fantasyland with Snow White and the seven dwarfs, and Lion King.
When they were young, Ysa, Tatan, and Enzo would dance through the “High School Musical”, now they are just happy with the rides and a cursory look at the characters.
They would ask, “Why does Goofy wear two pairs of pants when he plays golf? Because he might get a hole in one!” or Why did Donald Duck stare at the label on the orange juice all day? Because the carton said concentrate.
Also, the Disney princess who would make the best judge is Snow White, because she’s the fairest of them all.
As usual, I am the most boring tourist as I prefer to sip coffee and later on “turkey”, on it the only justification to drag me here.
There was no evening parade this time but the razzle-dazzle of the fireworks display was as usual, spectacular. It gives a ray of hope to watch and pray that on Easter whatever dreams and aspirations we have will be achieved.
The 1940 song from the Disney animated film “Pinocchio”, says it all “When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are. Anything your heart desires, will come to you.
If your heart is in your dream, no request is too extreme. When you wish upon a star, as dreamers do.” Sigh.
