The Technical Working Group (TWG) for the Burnham Park master plan met anew this year.
Councilor Mylen Yaranon, vice chair for the government sector, has enumerated some items before the approved plan is officially turned over to Mayor Benjamin Magalong.
The group will consolidate further the recent presentations including that of a Chinese group called the China Shanghai Architectural Design and Research Institute. Whatever is agreed upon by the TWG will be pursued and in concurrence will be signed by the members. The Chinese plan was presented again for the information of the TWG.
The meeting was also attended by Councilor Fred Bagbagen who agreed that the TWG should look into the Chinese plan.
Co-chair for the private sector: Arch. Joseph Alabanza, reiterated it is important to have consultations with the public using the park like the education sector, the students, and the academe. “Everybody ends up within the perimeter of Burnham Park. It is important to know their sentiments. We should consider the context of the total development, not only the park but also its interrelationship with the surrounding areas. It is time to look at the development of other parks within the city.” These parks would include Mines View, Wright Park, the Botanical Garden, Sunshine Park, etc.
Within the context of Burnham Park, the following areas would be given priority in the funding to be given by Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority: the Burnham Lake, the children’s playground, and Melvin Jones football grounds.
She also asked the body to agree on the areas to be preserved and maintained like the pagoda of the skating rink, the forest of the Pine Trees of the World Park, the Ibaloi Heritage Park, the sides of the Melvin Jones football field, and the picnic area.
It was agreed that there was no need for another consultant as the TWG already met several times with the group of Architect Heray. His group already put together the salient points of all the other presentations.
A meeting will be scheduled between the TWG and Councilor PhilianAllan, who heads the market committee, to discuss the pasalubongcenter. The location is still being discussed so as to blend with the total park nature development concept.
