The annual Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association meet has been cancelled as a continuing precaution against the Covid-19.
Department of Education-Cordillera Director Estela Cariño said they also expect the DepEd central office to cancel the Palarong Pambansa due to the pandemic.
Cariño, however, said DepEd is studying the possibility of holding selected Palarong Pambansa sports events virtually.
Earlier, DepEd Director Joel Erestain informed Manila journalists they are studying possible sports events that can be conducted online.
Erestain said combative sports with corresponding form events can be held online, such as arnis with its anyo; taekwondo with its poomsae; karate with its kata; and wushu with its taolu.
DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones will have the final decision if some Palarong Pambansa events could be held online.
DepEd maintains there will be no conduct of crowd-drawing events this year including the regional and national sporting events.
In May 2020, Briones announced the cancellation of the Palarong Pambansa and other events that attract large crowds due to the threats of the pandemic.
Cariño hopes the resumption of the face-to-face activities will push through once the vaccine rollout is carried out in the region. – Ofelia C. Empian
