Mayor Benjamin Magalong has directed the Public Order and Safety Division under Daryll Longid to conduct visits to local car wash establishments and remind operators not to unnecessarily waste water in cleaning vehicles and practice conservation measures.

During flag-raising rites at City Hall, March 11, the mayor said a public dialogue will be held with  car wash business owners to discuss possible ways to conserve water in light of the ongoing El Nino which he fears will extend until June or even later this year.

“We are expecting some difficulties dito sa water supply natin because of El Nino,” Magalong said.

Earlier, he expressed concern about Baguio’s decreasing water pressure due to El Nino which a Pagasa website says increases the likelihood of below-normal rainfall conditions, which could bring negative impacts (such as dry spells and droughts) in some parts of the country.

The mayor also appealed to the public to practice water conservation in their homes as city officials collaborate with Baguio Water District representatives on an almost weekly basis to formulate additional water conservation measures.
