OUTSTANDING SENIOR CITIZENS — The city government through the City Social Welfare and Development Office and Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs feted the 10 senior citizen achievers on Nov. 9. The awardees are Flora U. Flores, Josephine Timagen Balusdan, Bonifacio Pitas Doques, Teresita Sagum, Reynaldo Villanueva Roldan, Romeo Collado Apolo, Thomas Songasong Dumalti, Mario M. delos Reyes, Epifania B. Tamiao, and Mercedes Fernandez Pel-ey. — Neil Clark Ongchangco

The city government recognized its 10 outstanding senior citizen achievers for 2023 during an awarding ceremony on Nov. 9 at City Hall spearheaded by the City Social Welfare and Development Office and the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs.

This year’s awardees are Flora U. Flores, Josephine Timagen Balusdan, Bonifacio Pitas Doques, Teresita Sagum, Reynaldo Villanueva Roldan, Romeo Collado Apolo, Thomas Songasong Dumalti, Mario M. delos Reyes, Epifania B. Tamiao, and Mercedes Fernandez Pel-ey.

They were each given a plaque of recognition and a P3,000 cash gift for their achievement.

CSWDO Senior Citizens Focal Person Ana Codley said the criteria in choosing this year’s outstanding elderly achievers are: the nominees must be 65 years old and above, not multi-awarded and well known, had accomplished or initiated projects/activities/programs and services for senior citizens, has rendered their lives for the service of others without expecting anything in return, nominated by any organization or community groups whom they served, and not nominated by family members or relatives.

The nominees received inspirational messages from councilors Elmer Datuin and Betty Lourdes Tabanda, City Mayor’s Office Executive Assistant Hiyasmin Zambrano representing Mayor Benjamin Magalong, and Sol Go representing Rep. Mark Go.

They congratulated and praised the senior citizens for their significant contributions to society and urged them to continue sharing their valuable experience and wisdom to the younger generations.

The event was held in partnership with the Federation of Baguio Senior Citizens Assocation, Philippine Government Retirees Association, Blessed Association of Retired Persons, Philippine Veterans Affairs Office, and United States Army Forces in the Philippines. – Gaby B. Keith
