Ibaloy father and son triathletes, Jet and Josh Ramos, successfully finished their respective categories in the Apollo Petroleum Jelly Tri 2020 race at the Acea, Subic Bay on Feb. 23.
The Ramoses led members of the Baguio-Benguet Triathlon team to the finish line in the race organized by Bike King.
It was Josh’ debut in the standard distance, finishing in two hours and 25 minutes time, leading 12 other finishers in the 18 to 24 years old category. He also finished third fastest time of the day.
The standard distance is composed of 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-km bike and 10-km run, which took participants from the waters of Acea Subic Bay to Argonaut Highway, followed by a challenging climb up Ocean Adventure, and to the four-loop run course toward All Hands Beach.
The older Ramos finished second in the 35 to 39 years old category with a time of 02:25:35 and was fourth in the fastest time of the day.
Southeast Asian games gold medalist John Leeram Chicano was the fastest over-all with a time of 02:11:00.
The older Ramos is keeping himself sharp by joining short-distance races in preparation for the 70.3 World Championship and the prestigious Ironman in Kona, Hawaii later this year.
His son, on the other hand, who is still fresh from his six months swim training in Portland,U.S.A is preparing to represent the country this coming April at the ITU Asian Champs in Hatsukaitchi, Japan.
Apollo Petroleum Jelly Tri 2020 is the most sought-after opening race for the season, as triathletes are eager to get out of off-season mode. – Ofelia C. Empian
