KIANGAN, Ifugao – The provincial government and the 5th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army signed a memorandum of partnership for the construction of a road leading to a remote village in Asipulo.
The partnership is for the construction of P110 million worth farm-to-market road (FMR) to facilitate travel to sitios Nangkatengey and Numpaling of Barangay Namal in Asipulo.
Under the memorandum of partnership, the 513rd Engineering Construction Battalion will help the provincial government in the construction of the 4.376-kilometer FMR by providing manpower and equipment to augment that of the provincial government.
The provincial government aims to fast-track the construction of the FMR to facilitate development of the area.
Barangay Namal, a far-flung mountainous barangay, used to be the stronghold of the CPP-NPA-NDF particularly the Kilusang Larangan Gerilya (KLG) Ifugao. The community’s primary source of livelihood is vegetable farming.
The 54th Infantry Battalion cleared the barangay from the influence of the CPP-NPA, which led to the dismantling of the KLG Ifugao.
The 54th IB turned over Barangay Namal to the Provincial and Municipal Task Forces to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF/MTF Elcac) after it was declared as “Cleared from the influence of the CPP-NPA-NDF” for the development of the area.
The memorandum of agreement was signed on Aug. 10 between 5th ID Commander, B/Gen. Laurence E. Mina; Gov. Jerry Dalipog; and Asipulo Mayor Armando Domilod.
Namal Punong Barangay Grace Tayaban expressed her gratitude to the provincial government and to the Army for the project.
Dalipog also thanked the 5th ID for responding to his request for them to help in the construction of the FMR at Barangay Namal. – Press release
