Councilor Michael Lawana has proposed an ordinance seeking to grant cash incentives to Baguio-based talents who win in any talent or reality show, or competition organized and moderated by a private organization or association.
A Baguio-based talent, as defined in the ordinance, is a Baguio-born citizen who is a participant in any individual or group television show, reality competition or program, or any competition organized or moderated by a government agency, or a private organization or association; and showcases their talent in music, singing, dancing, acting, or other skills such as but not limited to computer, fine arts, language arts, math, problem solving, science, and social science.
The ordinance shall be called “Baguio’s Got Talent Cash Incentive Awards Ordinance.”
Under the proposal, winners in international show/reality competition/program/or competition organized or moderated by private organizations or associations are entitled to P10,000 if they are the champion; P5,000 for second placers; and P3,000 for third placers.
Those who win in national show/reality competition/program/or competition organized or moderated by private organizations or associations are entitled to P5,000 if they are declared the champion; P3,000 for second placers; and P2,000 third placers.
A screening committee will be created to validate the events before the grant of cash incentives is approved by the city mayor.
The committee shall consist of the chairperson of the city council committee on education, culture, and historical research; chairperson of the committee on tourism, special events, parks, and playgrounds; a representative from the Tourism and Special Events Division of the City Administrator’s Office; and a representative from the Schools Division of Baguio.
