Recognizing the need to provide the public accessible health commodities within 24 hours in times of emergencies and disasters, Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda is pushing for the adoption and institutionalization of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management for Health (DRRM-H) System for Baguio.
The proposed ordinance seeking to institutionalize and adopt the DRRM-H system was approved by the city council on the first reading during its regular session last Oct. 24.
The Covid-19 pandemic has prompted Tabanda to propose the institutionalization of the DRRM-H plan.
“Recognizing that the city-wide health system is currently being strained amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, the DRRM-H is vital to disaster response to capacitate the City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office and other units for their planning, implementation, financing, and operationalization of health response towards emergencies and disasters,” Tabanda said.
Under the proposed ordinance, the city’s DRRM-H plan shall be drafted, finalized, and institutionalized by the City Health Services Office. It shall be integrated in the city disaster risk reduction and management plan.
The CDRRM-H plan shall be the overall road map of the city for response efforts towards disasters and emergencies. – Jordan G. Habbiling
