Irisan barangay topped the list of barangays with most Covid-19 cases in the city with 154 cases as per records of the data analysis unit of the city’s contact tracing operations center.

It was followed by Lower Lourdes Subdivision with 132 and Slaughterhouse Compound with 124. Both barangays had outbreaks of cases in September.

Other barangays with the most cases are Bakakeng Central with 97 cases; Dominican Hill-Mirador, 76; Camp 7, 68; Fairview Village, 63; Bakakeng Norte, 58; Asin Road, 50; City Camp Proper, 50; Kias, 50; MRR Queen of Peace, 43; City Camp Central, 42; Loakan Proper, 41; Sto. Tomas Proper, 39; San Vicente, 37; Rizal Monument area, 33; Quezon Hill Proper, 32; San Luis Village, 32; and St. Joseph Village, 31.

The data showed most of the cases were caused by local transmission and clustering of cases became common in households and in barracks, dormitories, or living quarters shared by workers.

Health officials said people must religiously observe health protocols wherever they are.

“With Covid-19, there is no such thing as overprotection. We should never put our guards down if we do not want to catch the disease and pass it on to our families,” City Epidemiologist Donnabel Panes said.

To prevent transmission in homes, these measures are being reiterated:

Before entering homes or living quarters, wash hands, disinfect and change your clothes;

As much as possible maintain distance from one another. Sleeping and eating arrangements must be reviewed and altered if possible to allow distancing;

High-risk family members (those regularly going out for work) must avoid sharing utensils with other family members and avoid intimate gestures like kissing children;

As much as possible, minimize social gatherings and drinking sprees where sharing of common drinking glass is practiced;

Regularly disinfect door knobs and frequently touched surfaces and keep windows open to aerate or allow ventilation in homes;

Thoroughly cleanse and disinfect items and containers bought outside;

Monitor each other for Covid-related symptoms and do self-quarantine or isolation when in doubt;

Adopt a healthy lifestyle to boost your immune system by eating healthy, well-balanced diet, drinking plenty of water, taking vitamin supplements, taking maintenance medicines regularly for those with comorbidities, getting enough rest and sleep and exercising regularly;

Find safe ways to unwind safely; and

Meditate and pray.  – Aileen P. Refuerzo
