TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The province joined the line of national awardees in this year’s Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Obtaining a national rating of 1.8, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) is rated fully compliant under the Local Councils and Offices (LDRRMCOs) Category.
Under this, the province is assessed to be generally adherent to the standards for LDRRMCOs as provided in the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction Management Act of 2010.
Gawad Kalasag, which stands for Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan, is an annual search established in 1998 recognizing entities in disaster risk reduction and management and humanitarian assistance.
The search aims to promote and encourage quality implementation in disaster risk reduction and management, climate change adaptation, and humanitarian assistance programs.
This is in line with the government’s effort to protect and shield high risk communities against extreme hazards and render them more capable of addressing their vulnerabilities.
