Mayor Benjamin Magalong has signed City Council Resolution 317, s. 2022, encouraging the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (Kalipi)-Baguio chapter to organize into a cooperative.
The approved measure stated Kalipi is a women’s federation in the city which is a non-political, non-stock, non-profit and non-sectarian city-wide aggrupation of barangay women’s organizations/associations under the supervision of the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
It is committed to respond to the need of organizing women in the barangays to genuinely promote women’s development and empowerment by harnessing their strengths and developing their full potential as human beings.
“Forming the Kalipi as a cooperative will help its members to coordinate among themselves without as much money or influence to support the best interests of each other,” the resolution stated.
A cooperative is defined as an association/organization of persons that is owned and controlled by the people to meet their common economic, social, and/or cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically controlled enterprise. – Gaby B. Keith
