SM City Baguio will be welcoming the Chinese New Year with the Bell Church Athletic Club performing the famous lion prosperity dance at the mall atrium, Jan. 25.
The dance troupe will perform the Chinese tradition called, “caiqing,” where they will roam around the mall to bring good luck and fortune to businesses.
The lion dance will start from the lower basement and the finale will be at the mall atrium.
As part of the celebrations for the Year of the Metal Rat, a “lucky market” will open at the lower ground floor of the mall. The market will feature treats and items that highlight Chinese culture especially those that enhance luck in the coming Year of the Metal Rat.
The years of the rat are 1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020, and 2032.
According to experts of the Chinese zodiac, as the first sign in the lunar calendar, 2020 is considered a year of new beginnings and renewals.
It is said that the year of the metal rat is going to be a strong, prosperous, and lucky year for most of the signs.
The Chinese new year is often celebrated with sumptuous and colorful activities.
Mickey and Minnie Mouse stuffed toys from Toy Kingdom and Chinese ornaments from the SM Store may also be bought.
Delicious delights from Polland, Hen Lin, Mei Hwa, freshly cooked siopao, siomai, tikoy, and more Chinese delicacies can also be bought at the SM Store.
The lucky market is open until Jan. 26.
