A normal day of hunting turned fatal when a 28-year-old man accidentally shot his fellow hunter after believing the latter was a wild deer in Kiangan, Ifugao on Sept. 5.

The suspect, who was turned over by his relatives to the police, was identified as Lener Tobiagon while the victim was identified as Fredie Yogyog, 43, both residents of Ampugpug, Bokiawan.

The incident happened at Mt. Alibut-tung located in Bokiawan. The duo went up to the mountain on Sept. 4 to hunt. The next morning, they decided to go home but along the way, they noticed a fresh set of footprints of a wild deer. They deci-ded to split in order to hunt the animal.

After a while, the suspect noticed something moving in the bushy area. Thinking it was the deer, he aimed his gun and pulled the trigger.

He later learned that it was his companion whom he fatally shot. 

The report stated Tobiagon went home and reported the incident to his wife and neighbors of the victim.

The neighbors and relatives of Yog-yog then verified the incident and brought home the body of the victim.  The police said the incident was also reported on Sept. 6.   

The suspect is under the custody of the Kiangan Municipal Police Station while follow up investigation is ongoing.

In Kalinga, a resident died and another is in critical condition after they were shot by an unidentified gunman inside a restobar at San Juan, Tabuk City on Sept. 8.

The fatality was identified as Joegie Valera Cabicungan, 37, married, dental technician, and resident of Bulanao, Tabuk City.

The other victim was identified as Orland Dave Pascual.

The suspect and victims were drinking in separate tables inside the establishment where the shooting took place. The suspect stood up and went towards the table of Pascual and Cabicungan and shot them several times. He then fled the scene. – Ofelia C. Empian
