Ifugao boxer Carl Jammes Martin retained his unblemished record, as he outclassed veteran Mark Anthony Geraldo to capture the Philippine super bantamweight belt on Dec. 4 at the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque.

The 22-year-old Martin displayed excellent counterpunching like a veteran boxer en route to a 117-111,115-113,115-113 unanimous decision victory against the formidable former champion.

The southpaw boxer opted to engage Geraldo in a hit-and-run tactic, as he dodged his opponent’s intermittent attacks.

Martin became more careful in the later parts of the bout after he got staggered in the fifth round when Geraldo unleashed a strong right counter.

Martin who improved his record to 19 wins against zero loss capitalized on his jabs and footwork to outpoint Geraldo, who is the only boxer to defeat reigning International Boxing Federation super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas.

Geraldo dropped to 38 wins, 10 losses, and three draws.

In a post-fight message, Martin apologized to fans for his modest performance but vowed to improve in his upcoming bouts. – Harley F. Palangchao
