The simplified building permit application process has resulted in an increased number of applicants in the past week, according to City Building Official Johnny Degay.

During the Management Committee meeting, Degay reported 25 residents have signified their intention to apply for building permits since they announced the simplified process.

The streamlined procedure was specifically for owners of existing and completed structures on titled properties or with order of award from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

To apply, building owners of existing completed structures on titled properties or with order of award from DENR can signify their intent to legalize their structures by registering their names in the link: tinyurl.com/4jwcz2fj.

CBAO personnel will readily render assistance and contact those who registered through the link in accordance with the provisions of Republic Act 11032 or the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018.

The streamlined process is pursuant to Memorandum 1 s. 2022 on Applications for Building Permits under Specific Circumstances adopted for the purpose.

This is in compliance with Mayor Benjamin Magalong’s directive to encourage structure owners without building permits to avail of the chance to secure their own permits and legalize the status of their buildings.

The city is first catering to existing structures that are built on lots that are titled or covered by the notice of award from the DENR.

Other structures built on lots with different status or circumstance will be addressed later on pending finalization of the guidelines.

There are at least 80,000 structures that have no building permits based on the ongoing inventory of buildings, houses, and constructions in the city’s barangays. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
