KABAYAN, Benguet – Mount Pulag and other tourist sites and activities in the municipality are now open to the public following its temporary closure amid the coronavirus-2019 threat.
Kabayan Mayor Faustino Aquisan issued Executive Order 23-2020 lifting the temporary suspension of tourism activities and other similar activities in Kabayan due to the threat of the Covid-19 effective Feb. 27.
Aquisan said that the decision to lift the temporary suspension of tourism activities came following the advisory from the Department of Health, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and Department of Tourism that “it is safe to organize and attend public gatherings, meetings, and festivals as long as all precautionary measures identified by the DOH are observed.”
This clarified the earlier DOH advisory on concerts and other public events and gatherings, which prompted some local government units to postpone or cancel crowd drawing events or suspend tourism activities.
Aquisan said they have placed several protocols to ensure safety of its tourists and residents and prevent the spread of Covid-19.
In the municipal advisory, all tourists, tour organizers, and tour operators should require their guests/clients/customers and all tourists to declare their travel history particularly to those coming from other countries before being allowed to enter the municipality of Kabayan.
Accommodation facilities such as lodges, inns and homestays, cooperative, public and private offices, transport groups, and business establishments in Kabayan were advised to implement preventive measures relative to the threat of the Covid-19.
The DILG also reminded LGUs to implement all the guidelines in handling guests during this global emergency which includes monitoring all participants of public events. – Redjie Cawis
