The National Economic Development Authority-Cordillera conducted the Spatial Planning Blended Workshop on April 29 at the Newtown Hotel, Baguio City.

The activity aimed to craft a spatial development framework that will identify specific locations for production, protection, settlements, and infrastructure development for the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay (BLISTT) as the Cordillera’s southern primary growth center.

It is part of a series of activities to update the 2017-2019 BLISTT Action Agenda.

Representatives from the BLISTT local government units, the Benguet provincial government, regional line agencies, and the academe participated in the workshop.

Director Maria O. Amoroso of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development-CAR reoriented the participants on the basic concepts and essential considerations in identifying suitable areas for the different land uses.

This guided the participants in identifying initial locations within the different barangays in the BLISTT for land use.

The BLISTT also identified the support that each LGU could provide for the benefit of the whole BLISTT as well as the support needed by each LGU from other BLISTT LGUs.

The workshop also resulted in the identification of LGUs’ strengths and constraints in performing their spatial roles for the BLISTT and directed the participants towards a “Think BLISTT” perspective.

The BLISTT inter-local cooperation was forged through a memorandum of agreement signed by the BLISTT mayors on Jan. 17, 2014.
