Mayor Benjamin Magalong ordered the adoption of a revised traffic scheme along Upper Mabini St. to improve pedestrian and vehicle traffic flow in the stretch now turning into an area of concern due to a series of Covid-19 transmissions.
Baguio City Police Office Director, Col. Allen Rae Co, said that in response to the mayor’s order, the Traffic Enforcement Unit started implementing last Sept. 4 an improved strategy adopting the Keep Right System and minimum health standards for pedestrians and enhancing the traffic direction and control for vehicles plying the route.
More police personnel and traffic auxiliary personnel were also be deployed to supervise the zone.
The mayor was alarmed by the series of Covid-19 transmission occurrences along the area.
“We have identified four clusters of Covid-19 cases along that short span of the road,” he said.
An ocular inspection conducted by the Public Order and Safety Division and other personnel from the City Mayor’s Office showed the grave violation of the health and safety protocols in the area prompting the mayor to call for a dialogue with the owners of buildings and establishments last Sept. 3.
During the meeting, business owners were reminded to strictly implement crowd control and Covid-19 prevention measures for the safety of their personnel and clients.
The mayor also reminded businessmen and the public to adopt health protocols as a new way of life.
