The Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) turned over on May 21 to the Abra Vegetable Seed Growers Development Cooperative (Avseco) the Carabao Mango Consolidation and Marketing Subproject.

The subproject aims to boost the incremental income of the 71 carabao mango growers by 24 percent.

For an individual currently earning around P10,000 annually, this translates to an additional income of more than P3,000.

The subproject includes a nine-ton capacity hauling truck costing P4.9 million; 1,400 crates valued at P512,000; and a working capital of P521,600.

To enhance profitability for growers, the enterprise will implement measures to reduce post-harvest losses, improve fruit quality, and secure better market prices.

Strategies include on-site sorting, packing in crates to prevent damage, and immediate transportation.

In his message, DA-PRDP Deputy Project Director Danilo P. Daguio underscored the role of Avseco as the agency’s partner.

“Dakayo ti katulongan mi nga mang-implement tano dagidiay biyag ti members yo nga farmers ket ma-improve. Be reminded of the enterprise objectives. This subproject is not solely about raising money. Make sure nga ma-sustain yo daytoy nga project,” Daguio said.

Avseco General Manager appreciated the mode of procurement they have undergone.

“Mapadayawan ti kooperatiba nga mang-receive daytoy brand new hauling truck ta idi paylang sirsirmataen tayo daytoy nga project ket kuna mi pay nga baka second hand mabalinen ngem ti Avseco naikkan ti gundaway nga agpili ti kasapulan para iti daytoy nga enterprise. Napadas mi met dadiay agbid ken agpili diay mayat nga specifications daytoy truck nga nasurot diay inlatag da nga proseso,” Vasquez said. – Dalos S. Emok
