Packaging, use of tech crucial in winning Japanese market
Filipino exporters were advised to focus on product package designs and application of new technology, such as web conferences, to succeed in the Japanese market.
Takehiko Yamamoto, certified advisor of the Association of International Business Advisers, said use of new technology will be a “big help” to increase export volume.
“Package designs are another factor to grow sales quantity. Work together with importers to suit consumers’ preference,” he said in a webinar.
Yamamoto also urged local firms to connect with logistic companies, noting logistics is the new issue in the world trading for a while after the Covid-19.
As many Japanese food companies also would like to find their market in the Philippines, Yamamoto said both parties can create mutual success through working together.
“Japanese consumers are always waiting for new trends and tastes,” he said.
“During negotiation, behaving politely and friendly are the essences to make a strong relationship.”
Meanwhile, Yamamoto cited required documents for food import application under the Food Sanitation Act.
For processed foods, he said documents to be attached include a document by which the item name (commodity name and number), name and location of the processor, and name and location of the processing facility can be confirmed; an ingredient list; and food production flow chart.
Yamamoto said the manufacturing process flow chart describes the process from raw materials to packaging.
