BANGUED, Abra – The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) of Bangued and Lagangilang led the kick-off and launching of the Environment Month celebration through seedlings distribution.

Around 400 grown seedlings of mahogany, gmelina, and narra were distributed for free.

The seedlings were provided by Cenro Bangued and Lagangilang from their own nurseries.

Penro Officer, Engr. Marcelo Bumidang said the activity aimed to encourage local communities to plant trees to promote in building a greener, healthier and more sustainable environments.

Bumidang said  the seedlings distributed are fast-growing species which can be used and harvested by the beneficiaries 15 years from now.

He said they have listed the names of those who got seedlings for monitoring.

Gudelia Ramos, one of those who availed of the seedlings, said gmelina and mahogany will keep her farm greener.

Penro-Abra is also set to lead multiple tree planting activities this month including cleanup drives, run for-a-cause, and environment quiz bee, among other activities. – Christian Allister Tubadeza
